well-being

Miss Scudder is responsible for attendance and punctuality to ensure we are always in the right place at the right time. She works closely with our families to offer support on any issues they are facing. She also works in partnership with Horsforth Children's Services and supports our families to access this service. Our staff offer pastoral support to pupils in school through our nurturing classroom environments, planned nuture sessions and specificinterventions.

Betty & phoebe- Our School Dogs

We are very excited to introduce you to our school dogs -  Betty, who visits school every Wednesday morning as our therapy dog and Phoebe who is our school dog.

Betty works alongside Mrs Turner to provide one to one nurture sessions. Betty is two years old and attends weekly training, working through the Good Dog Citizen scheme. She has also passed her assessment as a Pets as Therapy Dog.

Phoebe is still a puppy but is now a familiar face around school as she gets used to life at Featherbank. Phoebe stays in Miss Scudder's office when she isn't in the playground interacting with the children.

Some of the postivie benefits of a therapy dog include;

  • Supporting children's emotional wellbeing.
  • A calming effect on all members of the school community.
  • Improved behaviour and concentration.
  • Reduction in stress and improved self esteem.
  • Fostering a sense of responsibility.
  • Increasing enthusiasm for and enjoyment of animals.
  • Encouraging children to think and learn.

PLEASE NOTE: Phoebe & Betty will be  working dogs whilst on the school site. This has been approved by the Governing Body, and Leeds City Council have been notified.  The Leeds City Council rule that no other dogs are allowed on school premises remains in force and we ask all dog owners to abide by this.
