Pupil Premium
The Pupil Premium is additional funding given to schools so that they can support their disadvantaged pupils and close the attainment gap between them and their peers. It was introduced in 2011 and is allocated to schools to work with pupils who have been registered for free school meals at any point in the last six years. Looked after children and those of service personnel also attract funding.
At Featherbank the funding has been used in a variety of ways to give opportunities, experiences and support to pupils who are disadvantaged. Examples of teaching and learning support include:
- Nurture sessions
- 1:1 support by teaching assistants
- Small group sessions
- Purchase of specific reading materials and other SEN resources, where required
- Speech and language support
- A well equipped library for extra reading interventions
The curriculum is enriched by:
- Specialist drama, computing & music teachers
- The option to learn musical instruments
- Educational visits – costs are often subsidised where hardship is experienced
- Residential visit in Year 6 & Year 4
- New resources to boost performance where required
- High quality staffing allows support as and when required to suit pupil’s identified needs.
- After school clubs offer tuition, experience and enjoyment to pupils pupils
We would encourage all families who may be eligible for free school meals to claim them. A healthy, balanced midday meal promotes the health of your child and his/her learning in school. Please see the government website for further information; the office staff can also assist you.
